About Imara the Biography International Soprano Imara Thomas was born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She grew up in a musically gifted family, her mother, Yvonne Thomas born in Aruba with roots from Saint Martin and Santo Domingo. She always sang at home. Her Grandparents, brothers and sisters all had classical piano lessons in Aruba, but Miss Yvonne Thomas had a powerful Soul voice. There were 4 languages used at home and music played at home were Classical to Pop, Soul and Latin in the Thomas household. Imara´s first singing experience was with music of the legendary Whitney Houston. When she was 3 years old she entertained family and friends with a show in her mother's shoes on Whitney´s songs. From the age of 10 Imara started with vocal coaching, piano lessons and ballet. Imara was singing at Church regularly with her aunt performing solo. When her Demo was sent around to TV Studio´s it led to many invitations and within a few months time she had her Television debut on ´De Goedemiddag Show´ with Jos Brink. Shortly after the show, Imara was invited to sing there again. With conductor Jan Stolk Imara sang with the Amsterdam Promenade Orchestra at the Doelen Concertgebouw for the annual Christmas concert at the age of 12. She was accompanied by the chorus and orchestra. The concerts were a success and she was thrilled because the concerts was all sold-out! On a regular basis she was booked to sing at children's charity events, church concerts and tv-shows. Imara started writing songs in her early teens and some were recorded at 19 years old. The song ´We can't go through´ gained the X-factor award on Dutch Radio Fun-X. In 2000 Imara’s started her first theater role with the NES Theater Amsterdam and Artisjok Nultwintig. There she played the leading roles in `One Way Ticket to Love` and `Trots` in The Netherlands and Belgium. Netherlands and Belgium. In 2007 Imara sang unique cross-over shows for corporate events in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Kazakhstan, Spain. In 2010 Imara performed on tour with André Rieu. Since 2012 she was engaged at Opera theaters like De Nationale Opera, De Nederlandse Reisopera, Stadttheater Bremerhaven, Deutsche Opera am Rhein - Düsseldorf, Duisburg in Germany. In 2007 Imara studied classical singing (Opera) at the Music Academy of Maastricht.. After graduating she specialized in Bel Canto at Architecture of Sound with legendary soprano Montserrat Caballé in Spain (Zaragoza), Bel Canto Academy with legendary soprano and colleague of Luciano Pavarotti, Mirella Freni in Italy (Modena). With an Aruban mother Imara grew up with Dutch and Aruban culture. In 2005 Imara won the title ´Queen of Carnival´ and ´Miss Photogenic´. At the queen election she won the main prize for her stage presence, elegance, vocal talent and communicative skills. Imara appeared on TV (SBS6, RTL4, RTV Rijnmond, AT5) and at many events for millions of people in a vibrant carnival-show with dancers in costumes designed by designer Rossini van Wijk. In 2007 She received the title of ´Queen of Federation of Europe Carnival Cities´, she represented The Netherlands in Spain, France, Aruba, Curacao, and Santo Domingo. In february 2015 Imara had her Dutch TV debut at Podium Witteman where she sang 'Atardi' composed by Jacobo Palm (1887-1982) accompanied by pianist Marcel Worms. In 2016 Imara had the honor to perform for the RH Princess Laurentien at the Genootschap Nederland - Aruba Anniversary. Imara was on the most popular TV talent show at RTL4 ´The Voice of Holland season 8´ and is unique at this Pop-Talent Show as an Opera-Singer who can also sing Pop. She sang Skyfall by Adele, the soundtrack of James Bond movie in the Blind Audition. The coaches were blown away by her interpretation of Skyfall using all her vocal ranges from low chest voice to a high C in her head voice. Imara was chosen by Rapper and Artist Manager Ali B, in the following round she sang ´Hurt´ by Christina Aguilera. She dedicated the song to her mother that passed away recently. At FunX Radio Imara sang FunX hits transformed to an Opera aria. The listeners had to guess which hit was sung by Imara. She free-styled in song to congratulate the winners. Imara is inspired by different artist among a large span of genre´s. Imara is working on a Solo EP to record her own original music with new and iconic producers in the business. She feels in her element with unique crossover style from Urban/Pop, Dance to Classic in spectacular costumes. To share the beauty of music and art is the ultimate experience.
